Sewing
machines were rare in rural China in the old days. After liberation
the Guangzhou Sewing Machine Factory was rebuilt and expanded to meet
the rising demand. It now turns out more than 300,000 sewing machines every year. Above: Workers in an assembly shop.
The
Foshan solk weaving industry has a very long history. Before
liberation it was mostly carried on manually by workers toiling
laboriously. Output was low and of few varieties. It was only after
liberation that this trade began to develop rapidly. Above: A
weaving shop in the Hongmian Silk-weaving Mill which produces more
than 20,000 metres of silk fabrics daily.
