Mount Johorina and other high mountain regions, have become winter sports centres.

Mount Johorina lies very near to Sarajevo and is covered with snow for a large part of the year – from November to the middle of May. The summit of Jahorina (1,916 metres above sea level) and several lesser peaks are accessible by a number of ski lifts. Many sporting events are held on this mountain and its favourable natural conditions, its comfortable accommodation facilities and conveniences, and it is not by chance that Sarajevo has been chosen as the location for the 1984 Winter Olympics.
