Split Airport has services to or connecting with all the major cities of Europe.  Itself a big tourist centre, Split also has regular boat services to the islands of the Adriatic.

Since the war, the network of airports has been steadily expanded.  Today, Yugoslavia has 12 for civil aviation, some of these among the most up-to-date in the world.  In the picture: the runway at Belgrade Airport can take the biggest planes currently in operation.

Commune peasants at Chingfend Ridge, Lu-an County, have surplus grain to sell to the state now that water is piped up the hilly terrain.  Before liberation, the place was barren, and even chickens perished due to the long dry spells.

Self sufficient in grain since 1971, the commune has made available to the state’s markets at least 2.5 million kg. of grain every year.

Chinchai’s Shuangshih Commune goes all out to transform its hills into terraced fields.
